southern Illinois favorite
Quickly becoming a favorite. Diversity of holes, great fairways, smooth undulating greens. Club selection off the tee on the back 9 can be challenging the 1st time you play...think accuracy, not distance. Enjoy this track. Could use more consistent sand in the traps...or just stay out of the traps!!! Highly recommended if you are near Carbondale.
Great course
Love this course. Excellent condition all around. My only complaint is the pace of play. Several groups of at least four players every time I'm there that don't follow proper etiquette and let singles or pairs play through. I played solo and took over 3 hours, after I finally skipped 2 holes to get around two slow groups. Need a course Marshall to keep pace up.
Don't pass up the chance to play this course
Great layout, fantastic turf conditions and smooth quick greens.
A fun mix of open driving holes, risk reward doglegs and 3 holes requiring target golf through the green.
Course is easily worth the daily rate.
Quality course
Recently played Hickory Ridge, generally found the course to be in good condition. The bunkers need significant work as they are currently washed out and have very little sand.
Layout has some interesting holes, and requires some thinking to get around the course in a reasonable number of strokes. #5 requires you hug the trees on the right side of the fairway in order to have a shot at the green.
Only bad hole is #10; dogleg left that has very little room for error.
Great Course
With all the rain that we have had in so. Illinois this course by far is probably the best course to play right now for the money, staff and accommodations are wonderful, by far would recommend this course to anyone thanks for the great golf day on your course sincerely Darryl
Great track
First time here, out of season and still in great shape. The greens have some great undulation to them and were rolling decent for this time of year. I can't wait to see how this place plays over the summer. If the greens are fast I'd suggest below the hole is the best place to play to. Has a range which is nice also, only downfall is not much of a pro shop.
The course is in a good shape, but the staff attitude is . . .
The course is in a better shape than most other courses in the area. My favorable impression of the course, however, was almost negated by the attitude of the staff which bordered on coldness.
ONE OF THE BEST
It started great when I telephoned the course to check conditions, prior to booking. Mike in the Pro Shop was great from the beginning, and just as nice when I arrived. The course was in awesome condition, and was one of the best I have played this year, and I have played numerous. I would recommend this course to anyone that enjoys the game.
This course is well maintained and a joy to play.
Course management plays a big part on many of the holes as water, rough or sand come into play. This coupled with the slope of the fairways, tall trees and narrow approach areas make this course challenging for most golfers. We had great weather and the course was very well maintained and manicured. I will definitely plays here again when I'm in the area.
Tee to green course was very good
Only complaint is that some of the bunkers needed more sand. Some shots in the bunkers were off of hard ground.
Staff and Course
Excellent staff courtesy and friendly.
Golf course is in the best shape in Southern Illinois and challenging. The fairway is zoysia grass and beautiful with very few grounds under repair . Yardage is accurate. The greens are smooth.
Recommend any one to try. You will not be disappointed
Best around
I live/work/play golf in Southern Illinois. For the 2nd consecutive year, this is the best golf course in the area. From tee to green, the course is fantastic. Friendly staff, nice clean facility and great golf!!
Highly recommended.
Course in great shape
Overall condition of the course is outstanding. The only comment I'd add is that #15, a par needs to be redesigned. It throws a target golf type of hole at you in the middle if the round that breaks the continuity of the round. It just does t flow. It's a 3 shot par 5 where you have to know exact yardages from pt A to pt B and they don't have a yardage book, I don't use a lasar yardage aid and in 5 rounds I have yet to figure out how to play that hole. Other than #15, love the course.
Good course
I think due the rough winter that they did a solid job on its current condition. I found it very challenging with the rolling hills. I think for the price I found it being a gem of a course and I will return next time I'm in the area
Great Course with excellent fairways
Unlike most other golf courses in southern IL, Hickory Ridge golf course has fairways and greens in the best shape they can be. It was truly a pleasant surprise that the severe cold of last winter has done little damage to the course of rolling hills lined with hundreds of hickory trees. The only blemishes were the sand hazards which appeared to not have been maintained for a while and a couple of young golfers who cut right in front of us and left without bothering to saying a word. Definitely, I would like to play again in the course and to strongly recommend the course particularly to the golfers who have gotten bored with playing in flat, easy courses.
Staff is the best
Went to play 18, partner did not show, staff was extremely accommodating letting me go out early and then giving me a rain check for the back nine. Can't ask for a better course or staff. I will be back.
Nice course
Well maintained, fairways and greens in very good shape. Need to play from the fairways and know when to leave the driver in the bag. Could use some added sand in the bunkers.
3 hour round
Great course for the price. Played blue tees. Lost one ball. Conditions were good considering they had experienced enough rain to limit carts to paths. Greens rolled very smoothly. Lots of doglegs. Foursomes courteously allowed me to play through. Golf Now had erroneously reported a slope rating of 137. Slope on card is 129 from gold tees. Highly recommend to anyone traveling thru Southern Illinois.
Excellent course
Course is very scenic and in really great shape. Besides playing in 90+ degrees everything was perfect
Interesting Course in Great Shape
Played this course once, and since went back several times within the same week. The course is in excellent shape, especially when compared to others in the area. Moderately challenging and interesting course with a decent number of position holes and hazards.
