White Deer Run Golf Course
About
Situated on the Cuneo Estate in Vernon Hills, White Deer Run Golf Club has a beautiful landscape dotted with sparkling lakes. The rolling terrain provides plenty of elevation changes, meaning there are some uneven lies and the occasional blind shot in store for you. There are not many trees but numerous bunkers lurk beside the greens and, of course, water is a pretty prominent presence throughout the golf course. Due to the plentiful and strategically placed hazards, the course puts a premium on accuracy. The layout is challenging but fair and it is also player friendly enough for beginners, offering ample room off of the tees. White Deer Run Golf Club's design contributes greatly to the course's playability, but that is also partly due to the immaculately manicured fairways and fast, well conditioned greens.

Played many times before
No rangers to move players in front along. 5 hour round which is unacceptable.
Rough is too long which slows play
WDR
Overall this is normally a great course, the poor rating for the course conditions and value for the money is specific to the fact that the greens are not ready for play, weather has been poor this year, but they are completely under repair due to the aeration that was done recently. Would have been nice to know this in advance as I would have waited to play there until they were ready and played a different course. They had no problem charging basically the normal fee (although I'm sure they will say it was "discounted" due to this)
Wait until at least the end of May 2014 to play if you are considering playing here, or you will not enjoy the round due to the greens.
Be forewarned of aerated greens
Somehow, it would be helpful if GolfAdvisor would make note of when greens are aerated. One of the "wows" on this course was supposed to be the greens...no so much when every green is aerated and unfilled. I felt like I wasted half of the greens fees, because putting was a waste of time. Lots and lots and lots of bunkers filled with tough, clay-like sand. Very disappointed in what could have been a really class course.
pricey but good
White Deer Run is a really good course with a lot of variety in its design. It is a fairly tough course to score low on, but there are no gimmicks. They do not discount often, so take advantage when you can find something here!
Nice course, needs conditioning/ TLC
Played near seasons end - conditions appeared unkept, leaves were not removed from many playing areas, bunkers were poorly maintained/ no rakes in many of them. Greens were fast.
Would play everyday if possible!
Excellent! Excellent!!! the course is a beauty, can't think of another course as nice for the price ( if only the geese would find there own facilities.
A very nice looking golf course - requires all the shots
It has everything you could ask for....from wide fairways to tight ones...long holes to shorties. Target golf to bomers holes. The course was in good shape.
It's also got a steep price tag. Get a good deal on Golfnow and you are set.
I'd play there again for sure.
Great course, having it's problems, though
For those of you who have played this course, you know what a great layout it is, and the fairways were in great shape. The greens, though, were pretty beat up, and there was no such thing as a true roll. The sand was terrible!!! Half of them full of water. Our foursome lost several balls in the deep water in the traps. There was no one draining them, and there hasn't been rain for several days. if you are thinking about playing this course, wait until next year, because they don't seem to be tuned in to fixing problems right now. Perhaps it is because it is end of season. If you play here, and the greens are still flooded, you were warned.
great course and staff
Not too much water, but lots of sand; one hole had bunkers all around the front of the green. Staff was great, very helpful, accommodating, explained the course. I want to play there again.
A gem!
The course is in outstanding shape from tees through the greens. The carts have gps with flyover views and restaurant capability. The will slow you down on any hilly decline and will also keep you away from the homes by slowing down and warning you. There is a nice driving range as well as a great putting and chipping area.
Very enjoyable round
Only complaint that there was no ranger and us as a twosome had to wait a long time on every hole for a very slow foursome in front of us and would not let us pass.
Great Shape, Plays Difficult from Gold Tees
Course was in great shape. They had sanded the greens as part of maintenance which made them very fast. Was not very crowded and got finished in under 4 hours starting at 11:15am. Always challenging and great variety of holes. Highly recommend.
Decent course. Not for walkers.
WDR tries hard to be a good course. The positives: the hole layouts are okay if a bit mundane in spots. The par threes are very good. Excellent selection of tee boxes allowing many options for distances. The greens are well above average in layout though they need a touch more maintenance.
The negatives: It is NOT a course for walkers like us. Some tees are quarter miles from the prior green. The overall design takes views of houses into consideration rather than the course itself. THERE IS ALMOST NO DRINKING WATER ON THE COURSE. If you don't stock up, you're out of luck. Pro shop service was good but the Starters had almost no idea what was happening.
Great possibilities for this course but it needs tighter management of customer service.
Not worth the price
Staff was rude, bar was closed (Wedding), course was in rough shape. Would not pay $89 for this course. Played 8 years ago and was a gem, not anymore.
Rough staff course needs up keeping
Played 8 years ago and was a gem. Now loosing is beauty. Bunkers not taken care of, Some tee boxes in rough shape. This is all base on that they charge 89.00 per person. Not worth that price. Maybe 50 to 55.
Sunday Outing = Slow Play, Beat-up Greens and No Kitchen Service
Having played the course before I expected to have a better experience than we did Sunday. Play was slow, the greens were slow and bumpy and the kitchen was closed altogether.
The likely cause of all these issues was a golf outing held earlier in the day. But, no mention of the outing was presented on the WDR web site. Would have been nice to know.
Golf course design is subjective and I do enjoy playing WDR. There are a good number of solid golf holes here. The condition of the course is normally very good. I'll be back to give them another chance.
Tough greens
Forgot how nice this course really is. The greens from above the hole will challenge your putting skills. Have some outstanding par 3s . And 5s go play this course and for sure get the best prices on golfnow
Had not played the course in 12 years. Enjoyed playing it as much as then.
Well maintained. Tough rough. Long holes and well bunkered greens. Fun track.
Good mix of holes and a lot of risk vs. reward.
A lot of placement golf. Many of the holes you need to keep the driver in the bag. Overall a great course in great condition. Only condition downside is that someone a few groups ahead of us was wearing metal spikes. Bad spike marks on every green.
Great course very challenging
Great course a bit pricey but worth a spin. Very nice and challenging.
