Overall Great Shape
Fairways & greens are in excellent shape! Sandtraps are like most in Central IL, hard packed needing lots of new sand.
Overall the course is in great shape and worth playing especially at winter rates......
Great shape for November
The fairways were in pristine condition and the greens were great but fast!
Ignore the 2015 Reviews
I have played this course several times this year since the bank foreclosed on deadbeat owner in 2015. The course has been restored to remarkable condition. It's not exceptionally long, however it's hills and doglegs make this a very challenging and fun course. Highly recommend giving Piper Glen another try if you haven't played in the last year!
Great course for the price
I purchased the round online for a great price. Course is in great shape and has greatly improved over last year.
Piper Glen
This is a challenging layout, but playable for most golfers. The restoration that has been done over the last year is making Piper Glen one of the nicest courses in the Springfield area again.
Nice course for the area
Tee box need CLEAN water in the ball washer, nod club cleaners that I saw. Rough had not been mowed, more like 3 cutting. Fairways on many holes were nice and soft. This was nice to see, however, green edges and putting surfaces had many dead spots. Also, the concrete cart path needs repairs, 3 foot holes under the slabs could be seen and, you were driving over this. Overall a good course compaired to others in this area. It is not worth 50.00 prime time but, 27.00 from GN was the correct rate
Enjoyable Round
Finished round in 3 hours. Got a great rate on Golf Now. I agree with everything King and Even said in their reviews.
Piper's Glen Re-configured
What used to be a pretty good track has been ruined by re-configuring the layout to 12 holes in order to put in some housing. The course is somewhat confusing, especially for first time players on the new layout. To play 18 holes you have to re-play nos. 1 thru 6 from different tee boxes which provide a different yardage and angle but using the same fairways and greens. Sound interesting but in reality is confusing, partly due to inadequate signage. Some of the more interesting former holes are gone now. The course was wide open when we played on a Monday afternoon but when the course is full the 6 overlapping holes would be a gong show with groups teeing off from different tee boxes to the same fairway. I would not recommend this course, especially at a summer weekend rate of $52.
A Good Quality Golf Course
Piper Glen Golf Course in Springfield is returning to a top standard. I had not played this course in several years. The course was a little different from the last time I played it. The course has went through some financial difficulties in the last year, when the previous ownership filed for bankruptcy. The new ownership group is working on returning Piper Glen to a top level golf course. The day I played the course was in the late afternoon when they offer a twilight rate. The fairways were great shape and so were the greens. The course is definitely making a comeback. You can tell some former bunkers are now filled by grass. Other than that, my playing experience was good. I will be back to play this course in the future.
Bring your own drinkings
Nice course. Good condition.
Was a hot day and all the water coolers were empty.
Can't count on the course to provide water.
Piper is back in great shape
Course has really improved. Greens were rolling very fast and fairways were in good condition. Great value!
a hidden gem
I found the course to be challenging, yet fair. It is a shot makers course, given the various dog legs and S shaped fairways. The greens are in good shape (as are the fairways)with many contours. However I found them mainly sloping from back to front. Staying below the hole is paramount on these greens quick greens. If I had any complaint at all it would have been the tee boxes could use some attention, and as with most courses, extra yardage markers on the fairways would always be welcomed. But all things considered it was a fun and challenging course holding my interest and never became boring in the least. As far as pace of play, the two times I have played it thus far, the only thing that slowed me down was my golf game. I shall return soon
Ace on 15
I holed out on 15. Great day.
Great day at Piper Glen!
Very nice, but rather challenging course with nice amenities. Course recently went through bankruptcy in 2015 but has rebounded nicely.
A day at the Glen
We got a great deal for our golf round. The course was in good shape for early in the year. Because of the wind, it seemed to get colder as the day went on, which made it difficult to find a true golf swing, as each of us were trying to stay warm and not tighten up in between shots. Overall we enjoyed our day, but will wait until things warm up a bit before braving the elements as we did this particular day. Staff was friendly even though they are going through tough times, not knowing what will happen with the course, as the banks are overseeing it's operations. It had been several years since I last played the course, but would recommend playing here, as the prices are good and the course is in nice shape.
Bad bad course conditions
Tee boxes and fairways were brown dead grass, greens were rough and tore up
Disappointment
This course was among the best in the area 10 years ago. The course appeared as if they have given up on it. The greens were the only areas of the course that had been watered. The greens had not been mowed in at least a month. We played on a Sunday and did not see a single person working on the course. So sad. I would not play this course in its current condition again if it was free.
Distressed Golf Course - Stay Away
Ever play an abandoned golf course? Here's your chance. I booked a tee time for my wife and I through one of the online tee time web sites. The fairways were completely burned out. I mean no grass whatsoever. I found out at the turn that the irrigation system had fallen into disrepair prior to the "bank taking over a few months ago" per the the asst pro. The greens are watered, but you have to use your imagination to see what a nice golf course this used to be. All of the bent grass fairways have been reduced to dust. Overall, a very sad experience. We paid $20 each including a cart, which was the only redeeming feature of our trip from Peoria. I hope that a future buyer can be found, but I would wait a couple of years before visiting Piper Glen again. Until then, try some of the other area courses like The Rail.
It's a joke
Poor customer service at the Pro Shop and unfriendly.
I was hoping that the golf course would be at least worth going and playing, because it's my first time, but when I got to the greens the greens was grass clippings from the lawn mower scattered on at least 15 putting greens. The greens feels like brillo pads, but that's OK it's part of the challenge. The only putting greens that's been only well maintained is the 18th hole greens.
I would not recommend this golf course to other golfers, unless it's the only one open in the area and you are a beginner. Avid golfers who played golf on other golf courses would not be happy, and enjoy golfing here.
Piper Glen
fairways and greens in great shape, bunkers horrible from recent heavy rains. If you miss the fairway you will lose some time, and perhaps your ball, searching the thick rough.
