Ruffled Feathers Golf Club
About
Ruffled Feathers Golf Club in Lemont is conveniently situated just a half hour outside downtown Chicago. Pete Dye and his son P.B. collaborated to design the course, making it the only Dye design in the Chicago area. A well thought-out strategy will be greatly rewarded on this challenging layout and bad shots made without any thought will be severely punished. This is definitely not a golf course where you can just grip it and rip it. The fairways are fairly straight and forgiving, but most of the approach shots play to tricky elevated greens. There are also strategically placed bunkers framing the greens and water hazards come into play on several holes as well. Ruffled Feathers Golf Club's par 3s have a reputation for being particularly challenging. But depending on how windy it is, the final hole might present the most formidable challenge.

Really nice course. Bunkers are terrible.
Ruffled feathers is one of my favorite courses in the area but haven’t played it in a few years. Snagged an early AM tee time for $119 which I thought was steep for the course as I remembered it but wanted to play it so I payed. The course overall is still good as I remembered. However, the bunkers were absolutely awful. They were extremely hard and some of them had rocks in them. Only a few bunkers were playable and only a few had rocks but for 119 I would expect the bunkers to be in decent shape in the least. So that was very disappointing but that is literally my only gripe that I have.
Used to be stellar…
No rangers • Saw beverage cart once + no drinking water available on course on a hot day • Bunkers hard dirt w/standing water • Tee boxes abysmal • Cart paths abysmal
*Hot Deal on a weekday was $65. Probably not worth it. Weekends over $100? Absolutely not.
Starter was really nice though!
Just OK
No sand in the bunkers, just hard dirt (I know, don’t hit the ball in ‘em). Some tricky holes, blind shots - either get GPS or offer yardage guides/books. No idea where or how far to hit some tee shots. And this isn’t the course’s fault but holy cow there were a lot of unfixed ball marks on the greens. I fixed at least 5 plus mine on every hole and it didn’t make a dent. And lastly, I think the designers were in a bad mood when the drew up some of these greens. Huge swales/drop offs that you don’t know are there if you haven’t played the course. Fairways & tee boxes were in great shape.
Beaitiful course
Really enjoyed my first time at this course. Well designed, well groomed with a friendly and helpful staff. Will definitely be coming back.
Great course, great staff, terrible pace and it was first day being able to take cart on course. Staff needs to be more diligent on the pace of play.
Ruff
Course in ruff shape, to much goose droppings on fairways. Tee boxes beatup,Cart paths only on dry days confusing. Course in the past has been impeccable… what happened.would recommend only if they offer a deal.
Good for target golf
Nice track. Unfortunately, the group in front are not following guidelines on repairing ball marks. Rakes are not placed at every bunker.
Everything is fine except the sand traps (as usual)
Several reviews where folks have had bad experiences at Ruffled. I've played here four times this season and this was the first time we had to practically DEMAND to play through a group who initially refused to do so. The had two holes open in front of them and they accomplished that on the front nine! Other than that course was in the usual shape - decent greens and fairways and cruddy traps. 3.9 stars. They also overcharge on their orange whips and other beverages a tad. I enjoy RF it's a lot of fun requires thought and never plays the same. Ruffled has shown significant conditioning improvement from a just few years ago. The bad reviews are because for what they charge to play most avid golfers do expect a more of pristine course. Recommend a play or two here. $55 senior rate Mon-Thurs is a decent deal especially for the quality of the overall design and challenge. Any more than that and I'd have a beef too.....
What happened to this place?
Ruffled Feathers is a Pete Dye course and it used to be in nice shape. I noticed about four years ago it had gone waaaaay downhill -- just horrible condition. Not much better now. I assumed back then the ownership change had gone awry, but that's no longer an excuse. Bunkers were atrocious. Greens were just OK. Fairways looked like they had been strip-mined in a 20th-century land war. And off the fairways...it looked like the course had been abandoned.
Even the outing we hosted was a mess. The pro shop was taking tee times after 10:30 for a 1:00 shotgun outing that had the whole course, so even at 1:45 there were non-outing groups still on the 12th (the 12th!) hole. On our first tee there were *four* groups on the same hole. We were on pace for a six-hour round when I gave up on the back nine.
What happened to this place? It's sad to see.
