Course cut out of the woods!
Have not played the course for years since I moved.
I really enjoy the course..it can be very difficult if you do not stay in the fairways. I found the greens a little slower than what I'm used to and what I remember but overall a very good golf experience. It is out in the sticks but well worth the ride to at least play golf.

Great course layout-financial hardships are impacting the upkeep of this terrific course.
Great course/great value
Tge golf course is in great shape! A very good value for a short drive from decatur. I would recommend this Couse for a golf outing (tourney) or just friends getting together. Staff is excellent and made you feel very welcome.
Wonderful golf course
I play this course a couple of times a year when I am on vacation visiting family. The course is always in great shape. The layout is very challenging and requires solid play from tee to green. The back 9 plays a few shots tougher than the front. If you play early in the morning or late in the afternoon you are very likely to see deer walking around. I would highly recommend this course. I have played others in the general area and they are not even close to the experience here.
Enjoyable coarse
Great layout challenging for an intermediate golfer
Beautiful Setting
It was the first day of this year's season that was perfect to get to go golf. 75 degrees and sunny, however, the snow had just melted and it was pretty muddy. Cart path only all the way,. The greens were slow and the fairways quite wet. Three of us were playing and it was a bit of a struggle at times. I am sure once the course dries out, it will be beautiful. The grass wasn't quite green yet, but it was trying. The pace of play was fine, we did let one party go ahead of us.
At this price, get out here.
The hotel/resort is closed due to mold. The course is run out of a trailer in the parking lot. But no matter, the course is as good or better than in the past. The fairways were well watered, and dare I say, lush. The greens were running at a faster than avg pace and were pretty smooth, despite some small dead spots from disease. The course is overrun with deer. Two of them were checking me out at midday next to the 6th tee, without any fear. Several more were lakeside, left of 14. The down side, is that most of the bunkers have deep deer prints. They need to machine rake more often. The course is serene, cut out of forest, with no houses. The only sounds are wildlife, golfers and the occasional boat motor. There are views of the lake on 6, 12-15, and 18. If they took a few more trees down behind the 6th tee, they could have another great lake view. But beware, don't expect to shoot a decent score. Even Fred Funk would have difficulty here, unless he'd played it several times. The lines off the tee are deceptive on many holes, with a straight ball going into the woods. Anything in the woods is likely a lost ball, due to the brush/tall grass. Anything missing the fairway will bounce into the woods. So, long day if you're interested in score. The 18th fairway is 13 yds wide, and located 20-30 yds right of what appears to be center. Same on #15. Good luck, enjoy, relax. At this price, get out here.
Beautiful Course - recently under new management
This course was once called Eagle Creek. It has a pro shop that is in a trailer in the old parking lot. It has been that way for a couple years. However, the course is in terrific and almost immaculate shape. The greens were very decent and the fairways in good condition as well. Many blind shots from the tips and narrow narrow narrow fairways. Very challenging course. Scratch golfer will struggle to break 80 from the tips. Many sets off tees.
Beautiful course
Cut through the woods on hilly terrain. A great test. Forced carries can be eliminated by playing the up tees, so playable for all skill levels. Well-maintained. Challenges all aspects of your game. A must play for this area.
Beautiful course,
Slightly over watered. Many challenging holes. Cart I got needed work - it didn't kick down when you used brakes, made it a problem on hills and curves. Well kept. Very scenic. Play was backed up on back 9, so I went to driving range for 30 minutes and improved my game. (Driving range is free,)
Very well designed course, well maintained. Lots of mature trees and sloping landscapes
Great, well maintained and very well designed course and unbelievable value.
Great views - scenic atmosphere
We really enjoy going to Eagle Creek as it's more challenging than our normal courses and it is much better maintained. The views are great.
Only complaint from this last time is that we had a group of 'teens' in front of us and one of them ran back and threw our ball over into the weeds and they were just goofing off, which is to be expected :). However, throwing our ball into the weeds was unexceptable and we didn't say anything because we were just 'over it' at that point and left our round early.
very scenic and challenging!
very scenis and vaery challenging, target golf, a LOT of dog legs.
This course is probably the most challenging public golf course in central Illinois.
You have to hit it straight on this course or be ready to lose a lot of golf balls. There is very little ob because most everything else off the fairway is an unplayable. The back nine in particular is dog leg left, then right, then left. The course will certainly humble most players. If you think you are playing well, this is the course you should play to test that theory. The complimentary driving range is also a nice perk. I wish more courses offered that option.
Nice Course
Beautiful Course in the woods. If you hook and slice you're going to lose a few balls. If you can hit em fairly straight you're going to enjoy this course. No cart girl but there was a cooler with Ice cold water every few holes or so. I would go back.
Excellentt course. Challenging
This course is beautiful and in pristine condition. Very well maintained. Scenic. Saw 2 deer and a fawn right by the tee box and they did not even appear to be frightened.
Club House was in a small trailor which was the only downside.
Well worth the 1 1/2 hour drive to play this course!!
Our group favorite for Central Illinois
Outstanding is the way I describe The National!! Carved through Central Illinois Mature Oaks, this course is truly a "Get away from it All" gem of an experience; where after the first 2 holes, the only possible noise or outside human intervention is from boats on the adjacent Lake Shelbyville. Each fairway is separated by tall timber allowing Total concentration on your next shot. The dense woods does mean you need to bring plenty of Golf balls if struggling with hitting straight! But Big tee box distance differences mean "Play it Forward" can solve that problem! Also, there's better variety there with size, shape and slope on greens than most nice courses I've played. It all starts with the complimentary Driving range which is the best I've been on with a confidence building downhill slope toward the gorgeous view of the lake. I always leave that range with Positive Karma. So inviting I often return at end of round, which I have never done elsewhere! Andy is Great in the currently temporary Pro shop, which at this point does not serve hot food while renovations on the lodge continue. This is clearly my groups favorite golf destination in Central Illinois; and yet as tough as it can be from back tees, my best golf always occurs here! Jeff
