Nice easy course to play
Great course to get out and just hit the ball. Greens are true, fairways playable, with little serious trouble from sand, water, or the rough.
Fair Course
This course is good if you live right on the border of Illinois and missouri near downtown St. Louis and want a cheap quick course other than that poor conditions on the course.
What a Shame!
Worst course I've ever played. I would guess great back in the day. A nice layout that has been left to go to seed. C'Mon guys! I don't know who owns it, but if you can't maintain it, then sell the property. There is no fairway. Nothing but weeds and bare spots. Bunkers were empty but for a half inch of residual sand, and weeds. I guess if you look at the blight of East St. Louis, this is just carryover.
I'm quite forgiving when it comes to courses I've played, but this place may be beyond repair.
I was in town for an event, and wanted to get in a quick round. On the bright side, the greens were cut, and played fairly.
Got what I expected
Fairways were kind of weedy, but Grand Marias has been that way for 40 years. The greens rolled nice, not too chewed up, consistent. Clubhouse allowed extra holes after 18 when asked!
Bad people
I quit after 14 holes (which I never do). Pace of play was horrible.
Beautiful Fall round
The course was in good shape except for the traps which were mostly ungroomed dirt.
The fairways were in good shape. We had some issues finding balls with the leaves, but no fault of the course. The fairways were clear, but if you were in the rough at all, there are lots of leaves. The same thing that make it pretty gets you in the fall.
Moved well until the last few holes; the group in front took lots of time finding balls.
Worst Course in STL Area
Grand Marais is the worst course I have ever played on. The overall condition of the course is terrible. There are no fairways, no rough, no fringe, etc. The course is similar to a cow field. I would hit a ball right down the middle, and still had to look for it as it was buried in the tall fairway grass. Tee boxes were poor, greens were poor , and the fairways were horrible. I will not be returning to Grand Marais.
Good course but...
Make sure you take something showing your purchased it from golf now. The guy behind the register didn't know what we owed.
Somewhat odd experience
Showed up and the man in the pro shop asked us how much we were supposed to pay, since we booked on line. Then, right after we teed off on one, the green sprinklers started. I had to drive back to clubhouse and ask them to turn them off. At the turn there were suddenly three groups ahead of us (we were first off one for the day). Turns out it was an every Thursday senior scramble. Really slowed down back nine.
worst course i've ever played
dont waste your time or money. for the price there are way nicer courses on golf now. carts were ancient, tee boxes looked horrible and covered in broken tees and my gf played from the red tees which werent really tee boxes but a spot picked out in the fairways. fairways were like rough and rough was like a yard that hasnt been cut in weeks. holes dug up in fairways all over with no tape around them to warn. soda and tea bottles in the fairways on multiple holes. greens were horrible. bare dirt spots and a few greens that actually had a rough grass on a portion. like playing in somebodies back yard. will never go back. the worst course ive ever played.
Repeat customer
This is the first time I have played here since they have redone the first three holes. The course was in decent condition. Would definitely play here again. Worth the value.
Golfing in East Saint as expected
The title says it all. East Saint Louis area has been a declining area for the past 20 years and so I was excited to possibly find a hidden gem in it but i was extremely disappointed and only golfed 15 of 18 holes. First, The place looked like it had been ravaged by some kind of fire. Second the greens were unkept and the fairways were more like difficult roughs. The green was worst with a ton of gouges. Third, The guy who ran the course (Or some kind of worker) was behind us giving us pointers because we were beginners taking more strokes than normal and holding up his game but we were trying to have fun. After 6 holes we got kind of discouraged by his constant chirping so we skipped a hole to get away from him. Fourth, The cart was horrendous and would jerk if you held down the gas pedal down. After 9 holes we stopped to eat the only lone hot dog in the stand. we had to share a hot dog! lol. The pros were that the stag was cold as ice and the price to golf was $10 bucks but in reality I had a superior experience 5 miles down the road at another course for the same price. The only way I would go back is if someone paid for me or if I got some coupons for a free golf to try the course again when its in better conditions.
Good course to focus on hitting straight
I enjoyed playing this course. Lot of water to stay away from. Had to focus on staying on the fairway!
