Great value with great people
We arrived about 20 minutes early and they got us right off. The attendant was very friendly, explaining course maintenance for the day. We breezed through our round and everyone was Super Friendly. Between the guy at the counter to the guy parking carts, everyone was very nice. Plus....we played by ourselves, but the people we did see on the course were very friendly. If I had one complaint, and it is small, is that a couple of times we could not find the ladies tee box for my wife. But in the course's defense, they looked like they were redoing some tee boxes and leaves were pretty heavy in the rough and around the tee boxes, so it would be easy to miss them.
Nice course. Neat clubhouse.
Paid $10 to play on a rainy day. Course was wet (soggy) so difficult to judge. Greens were fast and in good shape in general. Lots of mature trees and on a fall day the colors were great. Even with high number of trees always found my ball. Good number of hazards water, bunkers, tree lined fairways. A little out of the way up the river road but worth the drive. Clubhouse is nice. I pretty much had the course to myself and played the first 9 in one hour and fifteen minutes. I enjoyed this course and would recommend it. We are playing there again this weekend.
Lockhaven is a very well kept as well as challenging course with many very neat holes through out .
The only issue we had was that their was a foursome playing in front of 2 twosomes, us being the second. The course was very busy which is good for everyone. A little golf edicut would sure have been appreciated by many players, not just us. Why in world would these people be so rude and inconsiderate is beyond me?
Lockhaven is a challenging course for skill levels, the greens are blazing fast .
Lockhaven is a very challenging course , the greens are blazing fast .
Park like setting provided great golf.
Although we were asked to drive in the rough as the fairways had been over seeded, it was not inconvenient just a little unusual. The greens were In good shape. The fairways are wide and although tree-lined, we always found our balls.
best deal going
great value. service of staff always pleasant. course still looking good. one of my favorites
Pleasant surprise
It was the first time I played the course. Driving by on the great river road, the little bit of the course that can be seen appears flat. However, the course is actually fairly hilly with a nice variety of holes (length, doglegs in both directions, elevation, etc.). Course was in very good shape.
decent course with good value
Paid $14. 4 of 18 tee boxes were not cut, a couple greens were mediocre and little slow, but the rest were great, smooth and medium speed. Fairway grass is consistent, but longer than most courses. Fairways are pretty wide, good mix of trees, water, doglegs, and bunker usage. As a golfer who plays many different courses, this one is average. I would play it again, but not for over $30.
Great price at $16.00 but not worth the drive.
Received a great deal on golf now, $16.00 per player which included the golf now fee so we thought we would give is a try. A lot of crab grass growing in the greens which i find unacceptable.
Tees boxes were not in the best of shape either.
beautiful layout with lots of elevated tees and large greens.
a very enjoyable golfing experience. The fairways and greens were in very good condition. Greens were all very large and putted very well. They were very receptive to iron approaches.
The majority of holes were very challenging with lots of doglegs in both directions which required good t shot planning. Their were a large number of elevated t shots that made for a very pleasing view from the t boxes. The course has a lot of mature trees that can give you trouble if you stray from the fairways.
Great Course Conditions
This course has really bounced back since some spring flooding. The staff is very friendly too. I can't find a single thing to complain about.
Nice Sunday afternoon on a beautiful course.
I've never played this course and was pleasantly surprised. Not a long course but a good test for different levels. Lots of doglegs and trees. Hitting fairways and hitting straight are important. The course is in good shape considering the high temps lately. (Looks like it probably was pristine a few weeks ago.) Staff is very friendly. Followed a slow twosome the last several holes and still finished in a little over 4 hours on a Sunday. Will definitely play here again.
Great condition and a perfect setting.
From a condition standpoint, this converted country club is one of the best of the mid-range priced courses in the StL area; perhaps because its tucked away up the Illinois side of the Great River Road and sees less traffic. The tee boxes (in particular), fairways and greens are in fabulous condition. There isn't really a throwaway hole in the track. Elevation changes and some huge bunkers make things interesting. Even though the course is surrounded by forest, the trees on the course were thinned sufficiently that a ball off the fairway isn't lost and remains in play. For men, even if you would normally hit from the white or senior tees, do yourself a favor and back up a bit to the blue tees. The tees for lower handicaps are often elevated further, and some of the views really improve. Its worth the extra few yards. For a real show, come out the last two weeks of September into the first two weeks in October when the leaves change up here. Because of some of the great rates they offer to golfers on their email list, I am bumping my review to 5 stars for the great value.
Great layout and great condition
I arrived and was checked in immediately with no problem. Played with a group who know the course which was a plus since it was my first time playing the course. Challenging layout and well maintained with enough length and hills to navigate and make it interesting.
This course offers many challenges.
Very nice course, first time playing it. Plenty of challenges for a high handicapper, better golfers can score well however.
Most greens and tee boxes in excellent shape, but a few needed attention. (This due to early season flooding I am told) Fairways nice throughout.
This is a fun but challenging course to play.
I look forward to playing Lockhaven because it has lots of sand bunkers and I'm like a kid --- always finding the sand. It is a mature course with lakes and beautiful oak trees. The greens are in great shape!
Worth the drive.
Very good golf course. A lot of elevation changes to challenge the low handicapper but fair enough not to scare off the higher handicap golfer. Staff was friendly and accommodating. A little hard to find but well worth the effort.
Many fun features.
This was our first time playing this course, and we very much enjoyed it. Other than the first 2 holes which were under repair, it was in fine shape. The doglegs provided some interest in club selection, and the greens were in excellent condition. We had a great time. In fact, I am going to play it again today.
The course was good
Nothin special but a well maintained course. Pace of play was awesome. Finished in 3 hrs.
fun course, challenging
Great course, lots of great people, and great pricing. Really appreciate the addition of yardage markers.
