Not so hot a deal.
Round for 2 was puchased on golfnow as a hot deal. Due to flooding hole 1 was virtual. Hole 2 was modified tee box par 3. Green were fast and decently maintained. FairwAys were wide with lots of terrain changes, water and sand minimal. Cart paths were stop and go almost non existent. Lots of clumpy grass in fairways due to rains lots of standing water course took 6 hours to play was not impressed overall
Quick 9 on IL Visit
We went to Alton from STL to ride bikes on the river trail & play golf. Hadn't played Lockhaven since it had reopened so was interested to see it again. Unfortunately, the recent floods have damaged part of #1 fairway & its green & #2 tee boxes. Other than that the course us in great shape. Great layout winding thru the hills & woods with sand, water & other hazards. The Bermuda is coming in good in the fairways & the greens were in very good condition. We only played 9 (the "pro" let us play #10 since #1 was a temp par 3). Really enjoyed it & will return.
Horrible Greens
Sunday morning tee time at 8:10am and NONE of the greens were cut....maybe had not been done in a few days. Dew everywhere...impossible to putt. On top of that the greens were full of weeds; chickweed, crabgrass, etc. I predict this place won't be open within a year.
Great design, slow greens
I enjoyed this course because it was well designed with a solid degree of difficulty. However, I felt the greens could be better cared for. All and all me and my son had a great time. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Lockhaven
Great course tucked back off highway 100 in Godfrey IL. Course layout is great. Conditions were ok with most tee boxes in good shape, some not very good. Large greens that were very slow but in pretty good shape. Fairways are zoysia but not defined versus the rough. Fairways are cut a little longer which I liked because the ball really sits up. The course compares to the feel of Norwood Hills, Normandie, and Glen Echo. Although it is pretty far from University City, I’ll play it again. Great course for the price. The white tees are only 5800 yards while the blue tees are 6400 yards. So a little short from the whites but a little long from the blues for a guy that usually plays about 600 yards.
Will play again. Course mgmt is working to bringing it back up from recent ownership change.
Great layout. Challenging enough for mid to low handicappers. Do NOT trust GolfNow's 'Mapit' link in the confirmation email!! It mapped to a place miles away!!!
Great Layout
Great layout. Greens were in excellent shape, good speed not too firm. Some of the tee boxes were a little bare, fairways were great, rough was very challenging. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Will play again, well worth the drive from south of St. Louis to play it.
On Par
This course is fine for the money. Cool layout, but has some rough patches. Tee boxes definitely need work. The fairways were fine. Greens had some dings but rolled true.
Good value for the price I paid on golfnow
Huge Potential. Poorly managed.
This course has huge potential! This facility could be top notch. It has a great layout. The greens were in good shape. The fairways and rough needed cut. Some of the tee boxes were below average. My only complaint was related to my tee time with GolfNow. I booked through GolfNow and was told that the price that I reserved for was incorrect so he charged me $10 more. When I questioned him on it, he said that GolfNow keeps putting the wrong rate. I felt that the course should have honored the rate that I reserved; however, he did not try to make it right. Warning: if you book with GolfNow, be prepared to pay more at the course! In my opinion, it was handled very unprofessionally. I wouldn’t play here again.
Getting Better & Better
I can't say enough good things about the new ownership & management. Their dedication to the course is evident every time we play because we see / experience something new or improved. The course is a really fun and challenging layout that will demand you use every club in the bag. If you haven't played here yet, make your reservation today. I guarantee it's not as far away as you think and I also guarantee you'll add it to your rotation.
Challenging Course
When i played course was in great shape. Only had one hole that the faraway was taped off but we had a lot of rain the week before. This is a old course so the trees are mature and the ruff was a little high The fairways where in great shape. They don't cut short so your ball sits up nicely Tee boxes where in good shape don't need a hammer to get the tee in. The bunkers were not great but it did rain a lot the week before. The greens where excellent. They have slope to them so if you are above the hole it is hard to stop but ball rolled true all 18 holes not one bunny hop If you want a challenge play from the blues. Staff is always friendly
Lockhaven Golf Course
We had an excellent time. Course was in excellent condition. It was hot outside in the 90's but did not deter us at all.
Needs work
The course wasn't manicured very well. Greens were in great shape though. The course is presented as if a high schooler mad at his father for making him be there did the mowing. No style or artistry was used. "This is the course, don't care if you like it" kind of approach ruined it for me. Staff was tremendously nice. Fun course, just needs some TLC
I perfect dayvery
Played like a pro because of the layout it were very challenging but reasonable fun
