First Time at Waters Edge
Never played this course before but went out with a buddy on a Saturday morning. I had read the reviews about the fairways and they are accurate. They apparently sprayed some herbicide or pesticide on the fairways that left large brown spots. Now, it looks like they are overwatering the course to bring them back. Either way, it was 10:00 a.m. , 85 degrees, bright and sunny, and some of the fairways were sopping wet. Greens were in okay shape. The course design is good, a bit challenging, but not too tough. Tee boxes (especially on the back 9) were in terrible shape, mostly just sand without any grass.
Overall, for $50, it wasn't too bad. If I'd spent $70, I'd feel like I spent too much given the course's condition.
Dishonesty regarding course conditions
I booked a tee time off teeoff.com for Saturday 8-21-20. I had played Water's Edge about 3 years ago and the course was super soggy at that time. I figured since we had not received rain recently the course should not be wet. IT WAS STILL SOGGY!!! Fairway shots plugged! Ok, let's get to the dishonesty part. After reading a few reviews of golfers who played recently, they had mentioned the fairways being in terrible shape. I called the pro shop and asked them if the reviews are accurate or not. They told me "there are a few brown spots in the fairways, but the course is in great shape. There is still grass under the brown spots, so the fairways are completely playable, they just don't look nice." I called golfnow to get a refund, as I believed the on line reviews than the pro shop, and the course would not refund my money. So, I played on a picture perfect day. I have played in cow pastures that are in better shape than these fairways! Most of the fairways have HUGE brown spots where there is no grass under the brown spots, a lie by the pro shop. Look, if the course is in shiity shape be freaking honest about it, don't lie when a golfer calls and specifically asks about your fairways. I know money is tight in this pandemic world, and every dollar counts, but being unethical is not the way to get golfers back when things pick up. Needless to say, I will never come back here, and if you do not like playing on fairways that the incompetent greenskeeper killed, I would find another course.
Great course, needs rain badly
I have played Water's Edge 8-9 times before, never have I seen more brown grass and crappy tee boxes. However I didn't let that bother me, my wife and I had a nice time.
Thank you so much for your review! We are happy to see you enjoyed our course. We appreciate your comments, and are constantly looking to improve our customer experience.
Good course but tee boxes aerated
The August summer draught showed in the fairways but the greens were in good shape. Unfortunately, the course was aerating the tee boxes while providing a cleaned off area to hit. The ground was very soft and hard to solid ground. The course is longer and harder than expected with a lot of water in play. Holes #8 & 9 can derail your round as 8 seems to always play into the wind. Playing again this week so will see how the tee boxes are now.
Thank you so much for your review! We are happy to see you enjoyed our course. We value your feedback, and hope to see you back in the future.
Poor course conditions
Fairways are in HORRIBLE condition. Not sure if they were flooded pr diseased. Just terrible.
Tough conditions
A herbicide was used that turned the fairways brown. Too many hacks playing and not repairing their ball marks. 17th green had several gouges in green. Looked like blatant vandalism. One issue is there is a nearby hiking trail that anybody can get onto the course and cause trouble. This is out of the courses hands sadly enough
Dissapointed
I love Water's Edge, but my recent experience makes me wonder about coming back. First, there is signage that a masks is required while in the club house (which I appreciate). However, the golf shop attendant was not wearing a mask while in the shop attending to customers (which I don't appreciate). This is totally unacceptable. Second, a chemical was applied to the course causing significant damage to the fairways. On most fairways, 30 % to 40% of the grass is total burned out. Given this condition, green fees should have been reduced (I paid $55 walking). I usually give Water's Edge an overall rating of 5 stars, but these issues, and especially the golf shop attendant not wearing a mask (which shows disregard for my safety) may keep me from returning to an otherwise enjoyable course.
So so
Very good course layout, fairways bad, tee boxes decent, greens average. No idea green fees did not include cart until we got to the course. Then they charged $32 per cart on top of the green fees. Terrible value and disclosure for that course. Employees very friendly.
Rough shape
Sorry to say, I usually don't write negative reviews, but the course was in such bad shape, I had to submit a review. Fairways were terribly patchy brown, greens were battered (I blame golfers not the course). Just really rough, and took away from the enjoyment of the day.
Good track for the price
Good layout, fairly challenging but not overwhelming, and well kept. Only real complaint was the pace of play. We teed off at 7:40am on a Sunday, and our round took more than five hours. There was no ranger, so there was no real way to moderate pace. Other than that, I would recommend as a value play.

A fairly well paced round on a Wednesday afternoon
Course was in decent shape for the amount of play/abuse it receives daily. They are actually trying to renovate some tee boxes which have needed attention for years by giving several a rest....why Par 4 and Par 5 tee boxes are all torn up with divots is beyond me. Not having divot mix on tees or jugs on the carts due the pandemic is unfortunate for this course. Most do not replace divots or try to repair them correctly. Even worse it seems no one who plays this course can be bothered to repair their ball mark on the green. While other courses in the area are playing hard, firm and fast....Water's Edge is not. You need an "air" game and make you fly your ball completely to greens....very little run up or run out but if you hit non-watered rough areas your ball will bound OB quickly. On course snack shop was closed but they did have a roving nurse cart. I understand they open the snack shop on weekend days sometimes. Grass warm up range...with actual grass!!....is a plus.
Course is absolutely notorious for slow play. Arrived around 1230pm. Observed the typical 3 group stack up on the 18th hole from the practice green. I asked the group finishing what their tee time was. One of the guys said we played in 4 hours. I asked again for their tee time.....one of the others guys softly....750am. I guess more like 430 and walked away.....a senior group plays Wednesday mornings....even then they should be able to get around in less than 430??
We lucked out and got around in about 330 due to a light mid-day tee sheet. The back nine took a tad over 2 hours due to the morning slow play.....by days end groups behind us it easily would turn into at least a 2 1/2 hour plus back nine. Recommend the course...it's fun and challenging but gird yourself for very long round....especially the back nine even it's remotely busy.
Thank you for your review. We appreciate all of your comments and feedback and take it seriously. We hope to see you back soon.
Nice summer round
Great layout. Course is in good shape except for greens have many ball marks. We will be back.

low caliber
Made a 8:15 resv on Golfnow, did not tee off until almost 9 am because there was a "league" that went out in front of us. Greens were a mess, did not see one person repair a divot. Nearly a 6 hour round with no water, beverage cart did not come by until the 17th hole. Sad to see a once beautiful course layout go to waste.
Weekend Hacker
Good condition with beverage cart service. Pace was not fast but acceptable

Nice course
First time we played this course traveled from western subs to try it out. There was no starter And didn’t see a ranger the entire round (4hrs). Course is an old mature course with lots of trees and good deal of water. The layout and holes were fun and challenging. Played first 6 holes in one hour. Then we caught up to a very inexperienced threesome who slowed down the course immensely. Had there been rangers on course may have been a lot better.
Sand traps were decent and had takes. Would definitely return and play again. All staff we did encounter (mainly Kerry in Snake shop) were extremely friendly and helpful.
Thank you so much for your review, Mike! We are so glad to hear you enjoy our course and wonderful staff. We look forward to having you back in the future.
