About
Editor's Note: Course closed for business in 2022.
Gleneagles County Club is home to two 18-hole golf courses, the Red and White. Opened in 1924, both courses have traditional layouts that have withstood the test of time. The Red Course, also known as the Lakes, is the longer of the two. Water hazards come into play on several holes, including what is considered the club's best par 3. The Red's 16th is a 170-yard hole that plays directly into the wind to an elevated green that is protected in front by a pond. It's a tough green to hit but a relatively easy one to putt. Both Gleneagles golf courses appeal to a wide range of skill levels, which is one reason why the club is known as the "Home of the Shotgun Start," serving as host to hundreds of golf outings every year.

Needs So Much Work
Several years ago this course was a good value. Over the last 4-5 years ownership has neglected both the red and white courses. The sand traps are not really sand traps as there is no sand in the traps only mud. Trees have been cut down and you will piles of branches all over the course. The car paths are well not really cart paths.
Not worth the trip. RUDE Staff
We played this course on a Saturday and had a 5+ hour round. This is a mature older course with some beautiful natural features but it clearly needs LOTS of work. There are two 18 hole courses and after the first tee it becomes very confusing with the layout. There were people all over Playing wrong holes and wrong courses. Many holes either have missing numbers for the hole sigange or poorly visible signage. Many greens were in rough shape. There was no cart or on course beverage service. The staff at the halfway house was nice and the hot dogs were tasty. But the final Nail in the coffin was the ignorant and rude young groundskeeper who turned on the sprinklers on the 18th hole after we had all already put our shots on the green. The sun was setting but there was no warning or not even a courtesy of saying sorry guys but i need to turn on the sprinklers. That young punk is Lucky he took off like a bandit because four grown men were ready to seriously teach him some manners and proper edict. So this course is not worth the time or money and there are Much better options. Our group will NEVER return or recommend this old and dated course!!
Value Golf?
Not sure I'd call this value golf, for $60 I expect a course in a little better shape. But overall that how I'd tend to classify it. If you play the tips, the course has some long par 4's that make it a little challenging. But greens are easy to read, not in the best shape. Course overall was fine but can't throw any positives out there.
Great value course
This course is great challenging just enough for average golfers. Great variety of long and shorter holes.
Hi MNDYTRYCH. We appreciate you leaving a review and rating us. We will inform the entire team, so they know their hard work is paying off. We look forward to having you back at Red at Gleneagles Country Club!
Never coming back
Most turtles could have kept up with our pace of play. GlenEagles does not know how to space out tee times at all. They book tee times so close you have multiple 4somes waiting on almost every hole. I will never come back
Hello, APCloutier. Thank you for reviewing the course. We apologize for the delay of play during your round. This is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. With an uncharacteristically full day, we work hard to accommodate everyone who visits our course and allow our guest the chance to complete their rounds. With that in mind, we are working to best control pace and allow everyone to finish in a reasonable amount of time. We will continue to look for ways to improve. Thank you for playing Red at Gleneagles Country Club. We hope to see you again soon.
Great Day Golfing
Enjoyed a simply marvelous day golfing . No waits, perfect greens & fairways.

only fair
The sand traps are an EMBARASSMENT! Its disgraceful. The price was raised $6.00 over the last year. Would not recommend this course.
Don't bother playing the Red Course
Telling it like it is unvarnished. Had not played the Red Course at Gleneagles in probably 10 years. Had a late morning time on the White course but it was so crowded we switched to Red to have a decent pace of play. Now I know why the Red course was so empty.....it's maintained just enough to be playable but very overpriced for what you get. Red is very old tired golf course - many of the greens are now just round small circles so they are about 1/2 the size they should be (or were 10 years ago) with some to the point where you're automatically short sided in either direction given the length of the rough around them. Most holes are dead straight away. Don't bother aiming at the flag on the Red Course it's pointless....aim at the center of the green because they are now so tiny. Tee boxes are golf outing divot laced messes. And for your additional enjoyment they don't even attempt to maintain or even rake the bunkers anymore.....100pct HARD PAN. Gleneagles Red doesn't allow you to run your ball up or shape run ups on many holes......they were designed to allow old school run ups! Superintendent (if they have one) lets the rough curl in and grow in front of several greens where there might be a 5 yard run up gap. The kind of maintenance that slows play down! There's way way too much wrong with the course to even think of recommending it. Either put some money and TLC into your product (they haven't in some time) or charge an appropriate rate. $25 w/cart would be about the proper rate at all times. Tired old gas golf carts....to dog track around in. Halfway house after ninth. I played the White Course directly after this same day....for a $13 cart fee......and I'll leave a review of that page. I'm incredulous how any of the reviewers below could rate this experience more than 3 stars. I'm at 2.25 stars - feel that might be generous - trending towards a 2 star.
Gleneagles
If you enjoy the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan this is your course! Hearing “FORE!!” before every shot you take, not feeling safe on your own tee box because balls are landing on it should get you going. Also, getting your cart hit by balls multiple times is also a blast. Wouldn’t recommend playing here because it’s super dangerous and extremely overpriced. Could be a fun course if each hole wasn’t on top of each other. Sad!
We apologize that you had this experience, as safety is our top priority. We encourage you to reach out to our team in the golf shop to discuss this further. Thanks for your review, and we hope you'll give us another try in the future.
We really appreciate you taking the time to rate us 5 stars!
Challenging but fun
I hadn't played this course in a couple years. It has some interesting holes that you can lose some balls, but that is part of the challenge. The greens were rather fast, so putting was another challenge with some downhill greens. Overall, I enjoyed playing the Red Course. I think you will enjoy it as well.
Thanks for coming out to the course! We hope to welcome you back very soon!
We really appreciate your 5 star rating!
