Cantigny Golf - Woodside/Lakeside

I scheduled this tee time for a quick post-work 9 hole round and got pretty lucky with my day. I was on the good end of a tee sheet mixup, so the starter ended up letting me play by myself on Hillside rather than Woodside. Groups were good about letting me play through. 9 hole twilight price was comparable to other courses in the area, which usually isn’t the case for Cantigny.

Pretty intimidating place for an amateur player, especially when it’s your first time being there. Lots of talented/formal golfers using the facilities and interacting. On top of that, there are a ton of facilities so you have a lot of options to go get practice. Pro shop is pretty expensive - I’m not getting anything until I post a good score here.

Course layout was fun but nothing too unique from other courses I’ve played. Played from the blue tees and was surprised that the course wasn’t very long. Tee shots pretty much always need to be straight, and fairway bunkers are placed to hinder above average distance off the tee. Greens were slow but that’s expected after a good rain earlier in the day. Hole 9 was extremely soggy approaching the green. Lots of pitch marks left on the greens.

I expected a stuffy and snobby staff but everyone was pretty nice and helpful. Overall had a great experience but a lot of that is thanks to being sent out as a single. I probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much playing in a random foursome.

Incredible course, amenities, and atmosphere. The three different themes of the 9 holes courses play well and are all scenic. Course was a little dry but that is true of any course in the area recently. Definitely would love to play here again and again

I have played this course multiple times and cannot say enough about how beautiful this course is! Plus it was in great condition for this late in the season. All three nines provide their share of challenges, which makes this fun and unique. I look forward to playing here again next year!

Fair rating on pace of play was based on the front nine. Front nine was slow. There was a wait at each tee box, in each fairway. We played behind a 5 some with 3 carts. I was surprised that they allowed that. I can't remember the last time I played golf behind a group of 5 players. Back nine went smoothly.

Superb venue, a must play course for golf enthusiasts.
Staff is excellent and supportive. Course is impeccably maintained.

Had a very good time playing an evening round starting tee time was 5:10. It gets dark at 7:00 PM right now so I was worried we would not get to finish the 9 holes but we just made it as the sun set and I finished the round. Very nice course, lost some balls but that is because I am a novice golfer, not the course's fault! The bar is very nice and it seems like a wonderful place to hang out with some guys.

We enjoy each time we go to play golf and sit and have lunch great facilities great people.

Staff was very friendly. It’s a pricey course but I was able to get a deal on tee off.Com. Paid $70 instead of $120 so definitely worth it. Had a bite to eat after the round at the bar and had a cool conversation with the bartender. Would absolutely go back at that price. It rained the day before so it was cart path only but really wasn’t too bad.
