Makray Memorial Golf Club
About
Makray Memorial Golf Club (formerly known as Thunderbird Country Club) is a public course that has been open since 1962. To commemorate 40 years of great golf, the course was remodeled and revamped in 2002. The renovations improved its playability and also made it more challenging. The championship-caliber layout features strategically placed bunkers, including some Scottish-style sod-faced ones, and tricky water hazards on several holes. The hilly terrain offers both challenging elevation changes and scenic views. The golf course finishes with a long par 5 that plays across a canyon of berms to a narrow fairway. Further accuracy is needed to reach the well guarded green surrounded by high berms, a pot bunker to the left, and a deep, steep bunker to the right. In addition to the course, Makray Memorial G.C. boasts an extensive practice facility with 1 1/2 acres of grass teeing ground, two putting greens, and a short-game area.

This course is not worth the money, the greens are beaten up, bunkers are totally destroyed and the tee boxes don't match up with the scorecard. Hole one had all three tees playing from the front and hole 4 had a tee box back 45 yards than posted. This would be a good $65 weekend course but not pushing $90.
Got Rain, but the bunkers were toasted
Total bummer condition. Couldn't even play out of many of the bunkers. I know we got a good amount of rain the day before, but there needs to be either a correction in price or communication with tee time holders that it's going to be in less that moderate condition.
First Visit to Makray
The staff was great, greens were very challenging and many picturesque holes. All eight of us will definitely play this course again. Also with 90 degree temperatures, having coolers with water available and rangers offering water was a nice touch.
Always a challenge
Makray was a dog patch (Thurnderbird) that was turned into an outstanding course. It is always in great condition and has the toughest greens in the area. They are contoured, extremely fast. You need to stay below the pin or you'll go flying by on a down hill putt.
Not worth it at all
First time playing here after hearing so many good things about how beautiful this course was and it just totally disappointed. I mean the course was just beat up and in terrible shape. Tee boxes are an absolute mess - slanted, painted, and chewed up. Their food was good and the staff were nice enough which is the only reason this isn’t a 1 star rating. Not worth the price at all
Nice but tough greens
Nice course but pin placement and speed of greens crazy for average golfers.
Excellent
We had a wonderful time. The icing on the cake was the food we had at the restaurant after we played. Just delicious-
Tricked-up Greens
Waited on almost every hole and did not see anyone from the course checking on pace of play. The layout isn't totally bad and I liked the pace of the greens, but some of them were impossible to put on a windy day. On #9, the pin was about 10 yards from the front, chipping or putting into the wind to within 2 feet of the cup rolled all the way back off the green. Other holes were not quite this bad, but on a day I thought I was putting pretty good, it was hard to stop the ball near the hole. Played with a different group one time last year and we all said the same thing and said we would not play there again. I decided I would try it 1 more time this year and have no desire to go back. I did not use any off course amenities.
On the plus side, it was a hot day and they supplied cold bottles of water on 4 holes and came around several times with other drinks and snacks.
The reason I would not recommend this course is mainly the greens.
Don't be above the hole!
Very nice course and in good shape.
Fastest greens around.
