Good
Always enjoy playing this course. A good variety of holes. Sand traps needed some work, but I don't like sand anyway.
Worst manicured course I've ever played
Apparently Lake of the Woods does not believe in manicuring their course what so ever. Tee box grass length was the length of my grass in my back yard. The "sand" in the bunkers was dirt on 85% of the holes and it was rock solid on a few of them. The greens felt like they hadn't been rolled since 2005, super slow and very choppy. Impossible to one putt most holes. On top of all that, my twosome was stuck behind 4 elder gentleman for about the first 8 holes. They could see us plain as day behind them, didn't want to let us play through. All in all, probably will not be back to play this course. It's 45 minutes from me one way, much rather continue to play the Bloomington courses.
Nice day of golf
Beautiful course set in mature woods. Helpful, friendly staff. Nice pace and enjoyable day of golfing.
Back 9 Review
Played the back 9 twice since front greens were just aerated. Fun course. If you can hit a decent drive you have a lot of short irons (8 - SW) to the greens. Some of the greens had a lot of slope which added good challenge. Pace of play was excellent and slower groups were great about suggesting for people to play thru. I will go back to play again next time that I am in the area.
Worth the money - Scenic
Scenic layout in the heart of the Lake of the Woods. I have always enjoyed playing this course. Friendly staff. Very large greens. Played in a threesome behind several foursomes, and we still finished in less than 4 hours. Fairways in good shape. Bunkers could use some sand and although the greens were in good condition, they were slow.
Nice course
The course was very nice. I talked to a few golfers there, a couple were nice but the majority was a bunch of old guys who acted liked they owned and built the course. The kid in the club house was not very friendly. I'd never golfed there before and told him it was my first time. I was by myself and was flying threw the course till the 15th hole. I got stuck behind 3 older guys 2 in a cart and one walking. They new I was behind them, I was in a cart. The rules state you must let faster groups play threw. I gave them there space and let them play, I didn't hit into them. They could have EASILY waited a few minutes to let me finish the hole and play threw. Instead they finally upped there pace teeing off so they could stay ahead of me. Golf is a gentleman's game. I ran into my fair share over there that weren't. About an hour drive one way, for a nice course with a bunch of slow, impolite, old guys. I've been treated rudely at country clubs before when your not a member. Private and semi-private, I'm pretty sure Mahomet is neither. I don't know if I'll go back
nice layout
looking forward to a replay on my next visit to the neighborhood.
This is a DON'T MISS course
From the staff friendliness to the speed of the greens, this was a great day on a great course.
Central IL budget gem
I play here several times a week. This is a Robert Bruce Harris design with lots of "classic" defenses, mostly around the greens. Some of the toughest greens to read that you will ever find. Miss the green on the wrong side, and getting up and down can be nearly impossible. Some bunkers are set back from greens and mess with your eyes. Tree-lined, some water, and hilly, esp. for Central IL. Not overly long, but play the correct tees, or offline tee shots will leave you in jail more than you think. Only public course in Champaign area with hills/trees. A beautiful walk in the park -- complete with plenty of wildlife. Great, friendly staff, and full pro shop with excellent deals on new and used equipment. A true family course, including the Par 3 course, which is great for kids, beginners, and experienced players working on their short games (REALLY tough greens on the par 3!). You can also play foot golf (w/ soccer balls). Very reasonable rates. Only concern is the conditioning, which sometimes can be rough. This year it's in the best condition ever, except the bunkers, which are sort of a disaster. A couple fairways are rough where knuckleheads drove carts through mud earlier in season. Overall, a wonderful facility!
Nice track.
Everything is good except the sand traps but they are working on replacing the sand.
Amazing golf course
Always love to play here. Beautiful coure with greatly crafted holes (although everyone hates No. 3 lol) Love the facilites and course. Hope everyone can play here.
