In Better Shape than Before
Played course about a year ago just after greens aeration, so experience somewhat diminished by that. Returned for a 4th of July round this year and course was in fine condition despite heavy local rains over the weekend. Pace was decent for a holiday but was probably lessened due to inclement weather. Greens and fairways were in pretty good shape. Few more rough spots on the fairways than on the greens but anything under $30 is a deal here if you can pay that.
Solid value
Interesting links style course. Greens consistent but a bit slow. Water comes into play.
Great experience
Course is in extremely good condition, and will test every club. It was windy, and made club selection, very important.
If you are traveling I -57 and have time, stop and play. It is a very nice course in excellent condition. My only negative, there was no cart person and no water on the course. Beyond that, this course is a 10+
Have not played in years and it is still a great course!
This course has always been one of my favorites.
I moved away from this area years ago was visiting and glad I chose to play here!
Love the layout...course conditions very good and loved the speed and difficulty of the greens!
Head professional and his staff very friendly and enjoyed talking to them.
Make sure you play this course if you are in the area you will be pleasantly surprised at the layout and conditions.
Very Long
The course and greens were in great condition although I found myself fixing divots at every green. The greens were pretty quick. Not the fault of the course, just people not fixing their divots along the way. The fairways were nicely kept. The course is very long with very few trees. Lots of berms and some bunkers at each fairway. A few water hazard areas but nothing insurmountable. The largest hazard is the tall grasses. Hard to find balls in it. I suggest packing a few extra balls for this course if you are not an accurate golfer. I personally like a course with more trees and a little less distance. A great course for someone who has a great long game. We only got drinks at the clubhouse but the menu was pretty nice with their offerings. Nice little bar and the clubhouse was very nicely appointed. The folks working there were very friendly and helpful.
Great course for the money.
Being a local, I have played this course a few times. Under normal conditions this course is well maintained and the staff is always friendly. Just be aware of current weather conditions. The pace of play was good until we caught up to a foursome the was playing extremely slow. This is the first time that this has happened to me, so I know that it was the exception and not the norm. Well worth the money, especially if you can catch the "hot deal".
Nice layout
Ironhorse,is in great shape. Greens rolled true. Staff awesome. Bring a range finder as yardage markers are hard to find.
Great Course
Ironhorse is the best value in Central Illinois and worth your drive. If the wind is up, and from the west, consider moving up a tee. The Par 3 hoes will test the best golfer.
The conditions are always wonderful and the greens are wonderful with many undulations. Have fun!
A cool windy day, but the course was in great condition.
The wind make this course a tough course. Three long par threes into the wind. But still a fair test for any golfer. Water comes into play also on a lot of holes. Greens were fast and ran true. I really enjoy playing here.
Wind will change how this course plays every round
Either water or tall prairie grass will come into play on every hole. Mistakes will cost you. Need to keep the ball in the fairway. Fun and challenging course that plays differently nearly every round due to wind speed and direction. Only complaint from my foursome was that the yardage is not marked well so many times it is purely a guess as to how far out you are.
Good times
This course has very nice holes, with wonderful scenery. Being a learning golfer I had lost a few balls, but I had a good time there. Will be going back.
Immaculate Greens
Couldn't have asked for a greater day, sunshine with a slight breeze. Course was in great shape, pace of play was good, only waited once or twice before teeing off and no one pressing behind us. Water hazards add beauty and challenge, especially #18!
Ironhorse is a good challenge
Few trees, but lots of tall thick grass. Several water hazards and some long holes. Course is well maintained and has a good design.
The course has numerous water hazzards
This course needs just a little work to become a diamond in the ruff. The fairways need attention as some are sparse and bare. The greens were average as were the sand traps. The design is good.
Nice course but aggravating pace of play which could have been avoided from the start.
The clubhouse facility, the staff and the course conditions were all above average even though it was a cart path only day. The pace of play was so very slow that we waited on every single shot. Initially another twosome was to join us but they brought an unexpected third player and the course staff had them tee off before us. This made absolutely no sense at all because we had long waits for every shot. I feel a little more thought and common sense should have been exercised by the staff.
Great course.
Prices are always fair. The course if beautiful and well-kept. I love the practice/warm up facilities. They have a great driving range, chipping green, practice bunker, and putting green. Nice greens and tee boxes. ALWAYS love to play this course. Staff friendliness can vary from person to person though.
Love to Play
It was the first time for my playing partner. He loved the course. It is very different than other courses, which makes it a treat to play. Cart paths need some attention, but the greens were excellent and for me that is the most demanding feature of the course.
Clubhouse is beautiful and well maintained.
First Time at Ironhorse
I found the course to be fun and challenging for the first time I got to play it. The greens are in great shape and adventurous. Can't wait to go back.
Very good course!
Nice course that I had heard about and finally got a chance to play. Challenging course that was in good condition with a very friendly staff! Looking forward to playing there again!
Amazing for the $
Without the golf now app my friends and I wouldn't been able to make it up to play this course. I'm very thankful that we got to. It was in very good shape and I hippie to make it back real soon.
