Front nine closed for renovations
This course has need drainage work for over 20 years and now they are working on it. The front nine is closed for this work. I hope they get ALL the drainage problems fixed, as there were many on the front nine.
Not happy!!
We were very disappointed in our golf day at Newman we booked our time with golf advisor but had called Newman and no one told us that only 9 holes was open on the phone..when we got there i told them was wasn't happy that we were not told...he said it wasn't me and we usually tell people but they didn't . They had the course totally torn up and we were told it's not that busy and it will go fast...we waited on the first hole for 4 groups to go before us...it was terrible...and we had paid aleady and wanted to play but it really took alot out of our golf...waiting a long time on every hole.
Good course
Good course. Smooth greens
Not worth the time
Course conditions were terrible. 2 1/2 hours to play 9 holes is ridiculous. The worst course in central Illinois.
Greens are much improved - Plays firm and fast.
The Peoria Park District has spent some time and effort on improving the greens and I am pleased to report that those improvements are now fully mature. The course suffered from a tremendous amount of rain this past June, but is now in very good shape and playing firm and fast. Hit it straight and you can score here. Toughest 4 finishing holes in Peoria.
Not the Cource it used to be
The grumpy staff that checked us in, the bare fairways, sticky chemical treatment on greens were how our day started, but when we finished, and had to use the rest room before leaving we discovered all the doors were locked...good thing we found a near-by restaurant. This isn't the place it once was
great layout...wait for course improvements to be completed
Newman offers a very good, challenging layout (especially from the back tees). The course, however, is NOT in good playing condition at the moment. Almost all greens are being worked on and nearly half are "closed." False greens ("hit it into the circle and take credit for a two-putt") exist on 1 front nine hole and most of the back nine. Virtually every other green has "ground under repair" sections...
Call the course before booking a tee time, and wait until the conditions improve before booking.
course is under construction
Newman is overhaling several of their greens an the remaining greens are in poor shape. Might be better later in the summer.
This course is in awful shape
I have played this course many times over the past few years but in the last 3 to 4 years they have almost lost all of their greens in my opinion due to poor maintenance. I just played it last saturday and found the greens to be the worse they have ever been. There was really only one green that was ok and it wasn't great. I would suggests not to play this course until it has been taken care of. It is not worth the money and I will not be back on it this year
Newman
Early spring conditions are good at this point. Fairways are lush, greens are very fast but a bit patchy. Course is very pretty during the spring, with lots of trees throughout the course and some long tough holes coming home. Repairs are taking place around the clubhouse. Very good staff (nice people). I've heard that some of the greens are being expanded using parts of greens from a recently closed course in another part of the city of Peoria. An enjoyable round of golf with some challenge if you're not hitting it well.
Jimbo
Hadn't played this course since 2011. Front nine uneventful, back nine has character. With great moisture this year, this course was in the worst condition of any of the 30 courses I've played. Price was very reasonable, but won't play again this year unless it's another great deal.
A Must Play in Peoria
This us a very well established mature course. It is quite long from the white tees. Course was in excellent conditions and the greens were plush and true. All but one par 3 was around 180 yards and most of the par 4s were around 410. This us a must play trac if you are visiting the Greater Peoria, IL, area.
poor fringe and greens
Greens were in very poor condition. Mower scalping all around fringes. Fairways were in Descent shape
Disappointed
I read these reviews and had high expectations for this course. It was in awful condition. Greens were bumpy and brown in many spots. The fairways were nice and tea boxes were average condition at best. Nobody fixes their divots either. No course Marshall to make sure rate of play isn't held up by slow players. I would have expected $20 or less for this course. It has potential but was very rough. Also, it is not nearly as challenging as other reviews stated.
great shape long back nine
fun challenging course had best round of the year even though it rained for 6 holes
Nice layout. Good condition.
The greens had been aerated and sanded recently. Putting speed was slow, but true.
wet and fun
It was raining in the begining but it died down and we had a great time.
If you hit a straight drive, and can follow your GPS you will have a good day.
Course is easy if you hit a straight long drive. However to error is in the game. The trees are mature and well scattered, at least you will still have a shot though it will be a challenge to hit the green. Moves along well, the foursomes let faster players thru with very little coaxing. Good course and nice people. I would recommend it.
