Gateway National Golf Links
About
Gateway National Golf Club is the top public golf course in St. Louis. The course sprawls across gently rolling pasturelands crossed with ribbons of tall native grasses and sprinkled with mature cottonwood trees. There are also several sparkling lakes that dot the course, providing challenges on several holes. Although it's nowhere near the ocean, the golf course has a classic links layout with wood-tie bunkers and subtle but tricky mounding that is in the tradition of great British Isles courses such as Carnoustie and the Old Course at St. Andrews. The Gateway National layout even incorporates Scottish-style burns. The fairways are generous but they are lined with rough that will readily swallow errant shots. It is a long golf course at 7,178 yards and it even boasts one of Illinois' longest par 4s, the 482-yard fifth hole.

Felt like it played long. Needed to use most every club in the bag. Really enjoyed the challenge and the slick greens. Bent Grass Fairways were awesome..
Gateway in July
Course is always in great condition considering how much play it has been getting in the last year! Greens are firm and fast . Bent grass fairways are so much nicer then every other Bermuda grass fairway in town. For sure worth playing if you’re in St. Louis. Highly recommend!!!
A Good Walk Unspoiled
Let's face it, we love golf courses that we play well on. I played pretty well today so it was fun. Looked like many tee times were taken early this morning, so I was surprised to be sent out as a single. Greens were fast and true. Fairways were tightly cut. Thankfully I wasn't in the rough more than a few times...it eats balls! Without any wind, the course played at it's easiest. It's neighbor is a speedway. Fortunately, racing happened later in the day.
Quality
I have played this course a few times now, but had my cousin in from Dallas, Tx who lives on a course and he couldn’t get over the quality of the course.
He claims he’s never been on a green as nice as these and already is scheduling his next trip back to get another round in.
This course offers a challenge to all level golfers and the view of the Arch is an additional bonus.
We enjoyed playing with a buddy and local golf coach to make up 4 and enjoyed 18 holes on this quality layout.
Keep em straight!
Good course
The course is in great shape. It's one of the better courses in the area.
Outstanding Greens. Significant Improvements Made Too.
For late April, the greens are truly outstanding. They are running smooth and fast. They are at a speed where you think you hit the perfect putt but it rolls by the hole 3-4 feet. Doubtful, anyone will come close to the quality of these greens this year.
Significant changes to the course have been made too. New golf carts which say "Gateway National Golf Links at the Raceway". Not sure if a name change is forthcoming. Building a new snack shack behind hole 10 and newly planted tee boxes on 7, 12 and the yellow tees on 15. However, they are not in use yet.
The price of $75 was in-line with the other upscale public golf courses in the metro area. The starter was very friendly and even allowed us to tee off before our scheduled tee time becuse the groups in front of us had not shown up. I saw the beverage cart at least 5 times during the round and a person attending to the food/bar area inside. All the bunkers had been raked and our pace of play was fine.
This may be in the future plans, but the tee boxes on 10 and the white/blue boxes on 15, need an upgrade like holes 7 & 12 got last year. The other recommendation is to put a sign with the yardage on the temporary tees on 7 & 12. FYI...the temporary tee on hole 7 is a mat.
I've alsways put Gateway National Golf Links in the top 5 upscale public golf courses in the metro area. It appears they are committed to making positive changes to the grounds/management of the course - which is great to see. But everone needs to play Gateway because the greens are the best you will play this year.
Fantastic Round
The course was in great shape considering that it’s December. A wonderful example of links play in the STL area.
