Prairie Bluff Public Golf Club
About
Prairie Bluff Golf Course in Lockport stretches across 237 acres of gently rolling hills covered with native prairie grass. The course has a links-style layout that can play much tougher depending on the wind speed that day. Overall though, the course is player friendly enough for any skill level. The layout is open with few trees and the fairways are wide and forgiving, taking away some of the intimidation provided by the bordering rough. There is also water on the golf course, but the hazards that come into play aren't overly strenuous. You can still expect some challenges from the minimal but strategically placed bunkering. Besides the golf course, Prairie Bluff is known as one of the area's hidden gems for its outstanding restaurant, which is known especially for the barbecue brisket.

Reviews
Nice course, not nice staff
The course is nice, and it was in really good shape, especially for mid-September. Had great weather, the food is good. That's all the good stuff.
Now the bad. The rangers here are a real pain. I understand the need to keep things moving and having golfed for over 30 years, I know all about pace of play, and make sure I keep up. But our foursome are all high handicappers, (only one of us broke 100). So guess what? It takes us longer to play than a group of single digit guys. Plus, with the morning sun and dew, early on it was hard to see a ball in the rough that would normally be easy to spot. Repeatedly telling us to "catch up" is not going to make us play better or find our balls faster. Yes, the group ahead of us pulled away, but we never even SAW the group behind us, so we weren't slowing anyone down. Especially aggravating is waiting for the girl at the halfway house to take 5 minutes to get us 4 hot dogs, than being told to play faster because the guys in front of us were on the 10th green. Again, even at this point we didn't see anyone behind us, so what’s the rush?
This course needs to understand there's a difference between keeping up and slowing people down. In our case, we weren't doing either. We finished our round in 4:10.
Also, we had more terrible service for our post round beer/apps. Never got asked if we wanted a 2nd beer, had to go to the bar to get a water refill, had to flag down the waitress/bartender to get our bill, then had to go to the bar to pay it after it became evident she was never coming back.
This course could have a 4.5 star review if it wasn't for the people working there. As it is, I'll be hesitant to come back. My advice to management, why don't you station a ranger in the snack bar and bar area to make sure your staff "keeps pace"? You might consider limiting your course to only single digit handicappers as well if getting people through quickly is more important to you that ensuring EVERYONE enjoys their round.
Awesome
Great day to play and have to say the course was in great shape fairways were clean, greens were true and we'll kept......big fan favorite! Plus I shot 75 so even better!
Nice course a little to wet
Firtst $65 is getting up there for this course nice design greens were smooth and kind of fast . Sand bunkers we're good .Fairway was really wet and drives we're plugging this would be even a better course if they let it dry out a little like a true links course. Staff was very nice all the way to the cart guy . First time playing course I will be back with a deal from golf now .
The Bluff is Solid
I always enjoy playing here. The conditions are always very nice (lush fairways, fast greens). The layout is links style with very few trees on the course. Most holes you can use the driver and get away with it. Some short par 4s (#2) and some long par 4s (#16). Pace of play was average for a Sat morning (finished in 4 hr 30min). Its usually a windy track considering the open plains environment.
Awesome
Played 54 holes in 12 hrs last Sunday snd 36 holes in 7 1/2 hrs monday. Say no more.
Great place, very well maintained and friendly staff. New course to my arsonal of favorites!
Great layout; awesome condition
First time playing here and I must say that this is an awesome course. Great links layout with generous fairways. Good mix of dogleg holes and elevated greens. Bunkers were filled with sand. Challenging greens with plenty of slope. Not too fast but not slow. Putts true. Would rank this as top 5 course in SW suburbs. Can’t wait to play here again.
Good links course
Good layout, well maintained. Overall is a nice links style course.
Love the layout at Prairie Bluff
Our beautiful day was made a little longer due to slow loud groups not being managed on course. I don't know why golf courses allow music to be played on the course. Three different groups around us were blaring music. And they were not together in an outing. Motown on one group, Punk Floyd on another, and Neil Young on another. Put up some "no loud music" signs please. And get your rangers on the issue. I love all those musicians, but not while I'm golfing. If you have to listen to music stay home.
Fun links course
Nice links course with a number of risk/reward tee shots. If you can carry the bunkers you can cut major distance off your approach. Fairways are wide. Prairie grass is tall and your ball is pretty much lost if you hit into it. Bunkers are real sand and very nice. Greens had some funky bounces but seemed in good shape. Pace of play was great. 4 hours for a 4some. Food in the restaurant was great. We wanted BBQ but it was sold out. Burgers were delicious. $45 for a golf now hot deal is a little overpriced. I would recommend this course and will play again
Great course
Fairways, greens and general area are in excellent condition .
Prairie Bluff Golf course
Course in great shape, Greens nice and med-fast. Drinking water at most holes and towel wetting stations. Very nice course.
Wide Fairways
The course has very wide fairways but if you hit a really bad shot into the rough it is challenging to find the ball and hit it out.
Immaculate.
The place was immaculate. Looked like Scotland links in the middle of Illinois.
course condition
the course was in fantastic shape, but it is my understanding the course superintendent .is no longer there. The front of the house and rangers are rude and inconsiderate. I have friends that say because of the rangers they will not return.
Fun Course
One of my favorite courses in the area. Very well maintained with great amenities. Challenging yet scoreable due to the open layout. Fun to play! Always busy so expect at least 4.5 hours during peak times.
