An Oldie - But a Goodie
During a visit with my sister, I decided to take advantage of Chicagoland’s wide array of golf courses - and came across the Gleneagles White Course. In short, Gleneagles takes you back in time when course design was much simpler.
The White Course has two noticeable omissions when compared to the courses that have been designed since the 1980s - no water and no dog legs. But the White Course makes up for it with quick greens that slant back to front, which makes staying below the hole on the approach critical. And there are plenty of trees, many of which will require careful tee shot placement if you want unobstructed approach shots.
Off the course, you’ll find friendly staff. Even the starter provided first-timers some good advice. Overall, Gleneagles White Course provides an experience from an earlier era of golf course design.
Just Okay
The course feels somewhat dated and resembles a beloved's-average muni. Greens are small and a bit rough-rolling and somewhat slow. Fairways are a mixture of grasses and rough is not much higher than fairway. Nice size trees line most fairways, which is nice. There are only minimal cart paths and players drive all over. Rainstorm washed us out after tee shots on 17. I would be reluctant to return here with much better choices available for the price.
Bunker mentality
Nice course in good condition except for the bunkers. They looked like haven’t been touched yet this year. Hard as a rock, weeds growing in them, can’t even imagine the last time they were raked. An enjoyable round unless you find yourself in a bunker. Then kiss your score goodbye.
Good Course
Tee’s off at 1:10pm, finished at 4:50pm, pace was terrific. Might not be worth $60 green fee, but a fun course nonetheless
Underwhelming Course
Course is unimaginative in its layout, every hole is designed the same, boringly straight with little interest. Sand traps have no sand.
Took 4:45 for the round literally waiting on every shot.
So many better courses to play for $50.
Good course, awful staff
Course is in good shape. The staff is abysmal. Starter was 45 minutes behind by 9am. The rangers are just clueless and rude. Two rangers yelled (yes yelled) at our group on 16 within ten seconds of each other claiming we were behind 2 Holes. We were a half hole back because another group drove on to our hole and caused us to stop until they moved. We tried to explain it but the rangers were not interested. We caught the next group by the next hole. Also, the pro shop accepts Amex and had a beer special. The “turn” at the next building couldn’t take Amex and no special.
Good event course
Two courses out in the burbs. Busy but organized and efficient starter. Great course condition though rough a little long due to recent rains. Course not hard but straightforward and fair. Greens true and fast. Mellow relaxed vibe. Carts available despite covid. Pace slow but manageable. A bargain at $30 with cart. Well worth the drive from downtown!
Tee time and pace of play
We were able to tee off 40 minutes after our time and to play 18 holes with pace of play . Over a 6hr round for 18 holes of golf. Poor management and overbooking of tee times . Not an enjoyable round of golf at all but the weather was nice .
Mid-March round
Course was in good shape for this time of year. Greens were being mowed for the first time this year during our round. Our twosome played in less than three hours. Some low spots on the course were pretty wet.
Worst golf experience all around everything was garbage
Maintenance needed
The course needs some upkeep to make it look visually satisfying. I played the white course and the it doesn’t stand up to courses 1 & 3 at cog hill which is close by. Same price but easier play with worse conditions. I’m not saying I did not enjoy playing some holes. Have some long par 3’s to challenge your long iron shots. Very straight course
