Rough summer
Course and greens were in pretty bad shape especially the greens. Had to do with drought conditions I imagine. Went out very early am so that there would be no one in front of us and people kept jumping on in front of us. Don't know what that's all about. Always a joy to be on Canal Shores however. Its a unique community experience..

Awful
Played here for the first time in many years and was sorely disappointed. I understand that the course does not have sprinklers but we have had quite a bit of rain lately and the fairways were pretty decent however the greens were practically unplayable. It looks to me like this problem might not be solved just with more water. I have posted pictures so you can decide for yourself

Greens
75% of the Greens are un-puttable.
Please focus on green repair.
Fairways are ok given lack of rain.
Continue to clear out debris after first cut of rough.
Fluff up sand in sand traps.
Good job on moving around Tee Boxes.
Trimming some tree branches might be helpful as well.

Worst maintained course
The course has bare spots and dead grass combined with areas that should be mowed that just aren’t or aren’t done well. Greens are the worst I have ever seen in my life - completely dead spots and dirt patches everywhere and even good looking greens are wildly uneven and have clearly never been rolled. Tee boxes are rock hard.
Groundskeepsers “work on the course” while open making some holes unplayable.
Cheap but you get exactly what you pay for.

Greens are in terrible shape
I played this course quite a few times last year, so I knew what to expect as far as ugly roughs and mediocre fairways. But it was the condition of the greens that prompted this review. They are absolutely terrible. They are bumpy and brown and sometimes they are dirt. They are in a shape that doesn’t look repairable in a years time. It was a drag. And, last year the pull carts were free, albeit they were not great. But now they have new ones, at $10 a round. That’s more than I have ever paid anywhere. I know times are tough. I’m still rooting for Canal Shores, but my goodness.

Worst round of golf, ever
The course looked terrible. The greens were hard and bumpy. We were behind a threesome who were incredibly slow. I could find cheaper with greater value. There was nothing about this course I would ever recommend.

Like a nice stroll through the park
This was a fun course. Nice area. Some of the greens were in rough shape, which was disappointing. It started raining hard on the 5th hole, so pace of play wasn't an issue for us as most people had left. Good place to practice your irons/chipping.

Disappointed
I always thought this course was a lot of fun but now it is overpriced and in terrible condition. Greens are beyond bad. I know we need rain but bare patches on the greens are inexcusable. I won't be back until the fall, if then.

Conditions
Unfortunately the course has seen better days. The greens are in terrible shape & wouldn’t be surprised if a couple of them fail completely unless they oversees & water.

Very Bad Greens
The only thing reason you should play here is for the uniqueness (some might call it charm). It's kind of cute that it's integrated into Evanston and winds back and forth across the North Shore Channel and you see the Purple Line and the Metra. But you will also get crazy stuff like dog walkers, pedestrians crossing the fairway without looking, and hot coals piles next to the fairway. Also there is a lot of walking between holes.
The worst part of the experience was the greens. My friend described them as "elephant skin". They are very scared up. There will have to be a concerted effort ASAP or else the place will fall into total disrepair.
I truly wish it was good. They have a nice patio to have drinks on after the round and also a stand at the green of 4, tee box of 9 to get drinks and snacks.
They call themselves "The Gem in Your Backyard". It would be nice if they treated it the same way.
