Great Course
Hot day, but the course play great. Ruff was a little touch. The greens were great as always. Staff was outstanding.
Course is in great shape
I played on a wet and cloudy day yet the course was still in fantastic shape. The pace of play was amazing on a Tuesday morning and such a delight since it typically takes 5 hours minimum for 18 here. If you can go during off-hours, it’s definitely worth your buck!
Challenging and well maintained
This was the perfect day to golf this course - mid 70"s and slight breeze.
The course was challenging but well maintained. The pace was well controlled.
Dramatic and different, but value?
It's a fun layout in a truly unique location – on top of a landfill in the middle of an industrial/port area. Meaning there are some really great natural areas and cool views.
It''s tree-less and often breezy (a really windy 25 mph when I played) so it's built for this with massive fairways and greens. There aren't trees as a penalty for errant shots, so the thick thick rough and heather-covered mounds really are. You want to be in the fairway. Unfortunately, bunkers in front of many greens mean you can't run it up like tree-less links courses,, which made some holes nearly impossible to get on in the insane wind.
You have to play a variety of shots off the tee – driver isn't always the best choice. No two holes are the same. Cart GPS is really helpful.
The greens were nice and ran true.
But some tee boxes were a bit chunked up and shaggy, the bunkers didn't seem dragged or raked, and the asphalt cart paths are just trashed. Plus, they had just cut the long grass in areas and it just smelled of rotting grass a lot. That's tough when the weekend greens fees are in the $125 range. Look for GolfNow specials.
Overpriced and needs improvement
The roughs are deep and where they do mow they left the grass behind making it nearly impossible to find your ball. Food and beer not available at the turn. Feels like a $60-$70 course not $130.
Current conditions are a no for me
The rough was so long and thick that if you didn’t hit the fairway, your ball was donated 9/10 times. Our round with 2 of us took 4+ hours because we spent so much time looking for our ball on every hole. The rest of the course was maintained well though, so if you’re an accurate golfer, then you’ll be fine. Not a single tree and far less water than expected given the name. The course did smell amazing (like gingerbread) after about the 4th hole, so that was nice.
Harborside Port
Challenging course with brutal rough (lots of rain the past few weeks). Everyone searching for balls slowed play down. One beverage cart for 2 courses and a closed restaurant with no prior warning was not good.
Maybe just start over?
We've all said it for years now, why is this place in such terrible condition? I will excuse the greenskeeper for the record rainfall in the month of April, but otherwise the overall condition of this place is no more than a $60 daily fee course. Kemper and the Port Authority have totally ruined this. How many times do we need to discuss the overgrown weeds, the terrible condition of the cart paths, the lack of anything resembling a $125+ track. Why do we keep paying for this???
The course would be better if they just started over.
Port
Fairways were in fantastic shape. Rough was a bit overgrown in certain areas. Greens were slow as well. That said, still solid condition for April. Will only get better from here!
