ThunderHawk Golf Club
About
ThunderHawk Golf Course covers a diverse terrain of mature forests, marshland, and prairie. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. who made a commitment to preserving the natural terrain as much as possible, it was the first public course in Illinois to be certified by the Audubon Society. It has also been ranked as not only one of the top municipal golf courses in the state but in the entire U.S. as well. ThunderHawk is definitely a must-play if you're in the area. The layout balances challenging elements with more player-friendly features, offering a course that is versatile enough to accommodate players of all skill levels. The fairways are exceptionally wide with some room for error but there are a few tricky blind shots as well as strategically placed bunkers.

18th Green, after the 600 yard par 5. Photo submitted by brandonschicago on 08/05/2013
Great track but greens were slow maybe 6 on stimp
great track just slow greens, staff was very helpful and friendly great piece of land
Picturesque!
Great staff, and a beautiful course! Greens were slightly slow, and bumpy, but understandable due to few days of rain. Typical Trent Jones JR with many picturesque holes.
Not really sure what happened
So to start I want to say the course is great till you get to the greens, so if your putting for birdie good luck. Have played three time so far this year and have been very disappointed, Greens are just in horrible shape all around!!!!!!! For the amount of money they want out there I would expect to see better. When Fox Lake has better greens something is wrong. If your looking for a nice course check out White Deer Run really puts this track to shame.......Too bad use to really be a nice course but I will DEFFENTLY not be back.
Great course!
This is my second time at Thunderhawk and I couldn't be happier. It is in beautiful condition, people extremely friendly and the weather was beautiful. Round apparently took near 5 hours but it never felt slow playing in a foursome. Great track!
Perfect conditions
Course is perfect and no one was there because it was Mother's Day.
Favorite course in the area
Beautiful fairways, beautiful greens, beautiful scenery, what's not to like? Great layout, tees for all skill levels. Has pretty much everything you would want in a golf course. Fairways look tight from the tee boxes, but most are somewhat forgiving. A lot of trouble to get into though for poorly planned and executed shots. Bunkers have great, fluffy sand. Greens are smooth with plenty of undulation. Plenty of undulation in the fairways as well. This is by far my favorite course in Chicagoland.
Fantastic top 10 Illinois course & worth a visit
We played Ryder cup week & there was a great buzz about the place, not as many offers of food & drink on course as Cog Hill No 4 but adequate! Greens very good staff excellent.
Would go back for sure.
Terrific course! Right now my favorite track. Long but fair and in beautitful shape, particularly given the dry conditions this past summer.

Golf shop staff is pretty curt and the club house restaurant staff paid no attention to the partons-- they weren't mean but the servers just went behind the bar and ignored everyone and it wasn't even very busy. We got tired of waiting and went to the bar to get our drinks and then our food.
This is one course where the carts really should have GPS.
Great course to test your game!
This was one of the courses I had on my list to play. I am glad I did. I wish I had brought a better game with me. The course was in phenomenal shape! It had a nice country club feel for a public course. Greens were true and were very quick. Highly recommend.
