Golf Advisor: Top 25 Courses for Layout in the U.S. (2022 #10)
Reviews
Edgewood Golf Club
Many fairways and tee boxes need watered. Ground is very hard. I’m sixty and had a drive that went over 300 yards. Although I appreciated the extra distance on that drive...there were other shots that they went too far! Overall, nice course with a pretty tough layout and design.
Greens are great! Keep it in the fairway & manage your shots.
Edgewood is, and always has been a treat. I came on a day when there was a pretty big outing just finishing up. I was the first tee time available and the ball was in the air at that time. No wait, no hurry either. My first impression was that the fairways seemed somewhat...what’s a good description...THIN, just not a lot of plushness inside the 1st cut..... But, so were the last five courses I played. A “got beat down all summer long w/ magnified cart presence” kinda thang. The greens were pretty fast. Relatively equal in speed throughout.
Edgewood is a shotmakers course. It has character. You can’t just go out and start bombing it like Bryson, with a flip wedge to the green. Keeping the big dog covered up can mean a smiley face and circles on your card. Game management skills are rewarded here. Know when to be aggressive, and when to lay up. My game has come a long way,...it is not as challenging as it once was. But it still has its spots that’ll get your attention. During these times, it is an excellent way to spend some time outdoors & enjoy yourself.
Now, I played during “twilight” ...so a discounted fee of $15 for 18holes w/cart was phenomenal. NOTE: It took me only 50 min to complete the front 9, and finished 18holes in 2hrs 10min. Even if you don’t get a discounted rate, it’s most certainly worth it. Just remember, you have 13 other clubs in the bag other than driver, use ‘em.
Something for every player
I first played this course in a fundraiser scramble. Liked it much. Then played a couple more times. Some pretty “easy” holes for a newbie like me and some challenges on others. Outstanding value for the $$. Give it a try.
Great value
A course with its challenges for sure. Played early and things were soggy, but adapted well. Staff was top notch! Sand traps had water in them and was unable to hit out of them. Lots Of rain I guess. Well worth the money!
Perfect day for golf
Clubhouse attendant was very friendly and helpful. Cart was ready to go with scorecard. Course was in great conditions.
small community and large golf
Edgewood is a very challenging and enjoyable course.
Very few holes are similar and the fairways and greens were in excellent shape in spite of the wet spring.
The water that is in play is most challenging; especially on holes 9, 16 and 18. A most pleasant experience in Central Illinois.
Good course
Played it after a huge rain the night before. It was cart path only, naturally, but the course still played really well. Greens were in great shape. Front nine cart paths were a little rough and some bridges were in need of some tlc but overall it played really well for such a big rain right before.
March Round
Course was in pretty good shape considering the weather we’ve had recently. Greens were cut and rolled true. Look forward to playing it again in the near future.
Nice course, Great value
I’ve played this course for 25 years. It’s a nice layout and fun to play. Not too much trouble to get into, but still challenging and requires a variety of shots and placements. Well worth the money to come and play here. It’s reasonably priced and pace of play is usually very good.
